Microsoft first introduced the ability to set tabs and programs to fill specific portions of your screen back in Windows 7 and has been iterating on the function ever since. Still, we’ll also try to replicate this with the keyboard shortcuts. Alternatively, you can just get on with what you were doing in the snapped window and the remaining windows will return to where they were before you started snapping. We’ll be the first to point out that the native Windows 10 option is impressive; however, there are a variety of third-party apps that give you a bit more. With these apps, you can enjoy more definitive, grid-like changes to your windows so you can obtain all the tools you love so much and place them wherever you desire.

While in the console, you can select one of the main groups to view additional information, such as the number of events and size on disk for each view. Or you can select “Event Viewer” from the top-left to get an overview and summary events, recently view notes, and log summary. Usually, all apps should log events in this database, but it’s not always true for many third-party applications. The Event Viewer can track three kinds of event levels, including Error, Warning, and Information. The “Error” logs, as the name implies, indicate problems that require immediate attention.

This ISO can be used to install multiple editions of Windows 10, including Home, Home N, Home Single Language, Education, Education N, Pro, and Pro N. Windows 10 Pro offers simple, flexible management and simple, secure multifactor authentication, supports hardware-based defense against startup attacks, stops data leaks before they happen, etc. Installing Windows 10 Pro is many users’ choice and you may be the one.

If you are a Windows 11 Home user, you must need an internet connection to set up Windows 11, which is frankly absurd. There is simply no option to set up Windows 11 Home edition through a local account. However, if you are a Pro user, you can set up Windows 11 with a local account. However, Microsoft is being its annoying self, with the local account option hidden under Sign-in options.

  • You can set up rules to automatically turn on do not disturb in the Notifications settings.
  • 10 would be able to install it through GWX in a phased rollout process.
  • The company’s goal is to entice more Teams users to try out the app’s consumer features and, hopefully, use the communication platform outside of work.
  • On the Power & battery page, the default values for Sleep and Screen off are reduced to save energy and carbon emissions when the computer is idle.

If your cursor doesn’t work, you can press the Tab key to jump to the Power button and press the Enter key to open the menu. 1) On your keyboard, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete together and then click the Power icon. Microsoft: These two new tools will help you get ready for Windows 11

There will not be next version like Windows 11 etc., so now is the better time to get a license of Windows 10. A few years back, Microsoft offered Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade to Windows 10 for free. The upgrade program allowed users with genuine license keys to upgrade to the latest operating system at no extra cost.

Install from the command line

Microsoft has achieved its goal of trying to simplify the top-level Windows UX, but at the cost of functionality which many consider essential to their workflows. There’s also lots of security and performance improvements, and there’s even new features for gamers including support for DirectStorage, DirectX12 Ultimate, and more. There’s a few things new to Windows 11 that I’ve not been able to dive into for this review, though I did want to give them a mention. First up, Windows 11 brings improvements to Windows on ARM-powered PCs, including the ability to finally run 64-bit Intel apps. This opens the floodgates to most apps now being usable on Windows on ARM, though performance will depend on what ARM chip you’re using. Microsoft tries to disguise this change as being “consumer friendly” as technically it gives the user unlimited options in how your browser of choice responds to defaults, but that’s a really weak excuse.
